Canadian Wines
The latest celebrity wine to be introduced comes from hockey’s Great One, Wayne Gretzky. In partnership with Niagara’s Creekside Estate Winery in Jordan Station, the first three wines to be released in the US this year are a 2005 Meritage – $22, a 2006 Chardonnay – $18 and a 2005 Vidal Ice Wine – $48. Gretzsky’s wines will be created by Creekside winemakers Craig McDonald and Rob Power and each bottle will carry his number, 99. One dollar from each bottle sold will go to benefit his youth hockey programs.
Gary Vaynerchuk, of Wine Library TV, recently interviewed Gretzky in the Great One’s office, at his home in Phoenix, AZ. As the interview goes on and some serious tasting takes place, it’s obvious the two are feeling no pain. Vaynerchuck gives all three wines high ratings.
