The Shinas Estate 2005 “The Guility” Shiraz comes from a family vineyard that was planted in 1898. Today, Judge George Shinas is the talk of the wine industry.
A criminal judge in Mildura, Victoria, Australia, George has gone from a grape grower to a boutique commercial winemaker.
In 2000 the Judge was having dinner with an importer who sold wines from producers that used Shinas Family grapes in their wines. At one point in the night the Judge brought out some wine he had made himself from his favorite vineyard site to share, and the importer was so impressed that he begged Judge Shinas to start making enough of this incredible wine for him to import to the states.
Because the fruit is left on the vines for a longer period, it’s allowed to develop more intense flavors. And only the highest quality fruit is selected for harvest.
Full-bodied, lots of cherry, blackberry and vanilla with just a hint of chocolate and a hint of pepper on the nose. Smooth, with just enough tannins make for a long finish.
Only 2000 cases of this hand crafted Shiraz are produced each year. If you can find it, it’s a steal at $20.
